God, The Master of Life
5 The LORD saw how great man`s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time.
6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.
7 So the LORD said, “I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth — men and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air — for I am grieved that I have made them.”
8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.

1. What if I could see the rest of my life?
Hallelujah! I hope everyone enjoyed the Chuseok holiday.
Do you know the movie “In Time” starring Justin Timberlake, which was released in 2011?
Here’s the storyline of the movie.
With the development of science, in the future, everyone stops growing older once they turn twenty-five years old.
So people live their whole lives with a youthful, attractive appearance.
The year is 2169, and with the development of science, people are genetically engineered to stop aging on their 25th birthday. This allows them to live their whole lives with a youthful, attractive appearance. But as soon as they turn 25, a one-year countdown timer on their forearm begins, telling them exactly how much time they have left to live. When it reaches zero, the person “times out” and dies instantly. Time has thus become the universal currency, transferred directly between people or stored in “time capsules”.
People pay with this time to buy food, take buses, and pay rent.
They calculate everything they need in their lives through this time.
Thus, this society was always chaotic and noisy because the people were constantly trying to do something to get more time to live. They worked for time, borrowed time from others, or even stole time where and when they could. But all the while, the time on their forearm clicks was constantly tick-tick-ticking away.
What if we could check the time left for us, like these people?
Then we wouldn’t be able to live happily every day because we would be anxious about the ticking watches on our wrists that decrease our remaining lives every second.
But think about it.
Although we can not see it, we all live with “Count down watches”.
The rest of our time on earth is still disappearing second after second, day after day into that virtual watch.
After all, we’re going to die someday.
We don’t know the rest of our time, but God knows because he is the master of our lives.
God loves us, so he did not allow us to know the amount of time remaining in the rest of our lives.
Thanks to His considerations, we can therefore live each day faithfully and without worry.
Today, I am going to share from Genesis 6 under the title,
< God, The Master of Life >
At this time, in Genesis 6, Adam’s tenth descendant, Noah, lived
This was a time when the population was increasing a lot over the whole earth.
The reason for this is that the people kept the words that God gave them earlier in Genesis: “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it”
This should be the most ideal image we could see in the Garden of Eden.
God blessing the people he created, and people loving and obeying God, the creator.
God blessed people as promised.
But, did the people love and obey God?
The Growth of Sin [Slavery in the temple]
Genesis 6:1~4
1 When men began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them,
2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose.
3 Then the LORD said, “My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal; his days will be a hundred and twenty years.”
4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days — and also afterward — when the sons of God went to the daughters of men and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown. —Amen.
According to the IVP (intervarsity press) Bible annotation
In the ancient world, stories of sexual relations between gods and men were often told.
In Mesopotamia and Canaan, a sacred wedding was held at the temple to commemorate the marriage of God and man.
These ceremonies were intended to solidify the fertility of the earth and prosperity in everyday marriage.
The ceremonies included fathers dedicating unmarried daughters to temple service.
In fact, the girls acted as temple slaves to entertain priests and wealthy admirers.
Verses 1, 2, and 4 describe these practices.
The “Sons of God” means “spiritual beings” and although the translation may say “angels” it’s not actually an indication of their goodness.
This is Like Job 1:6, 2:1
‘Daughters of Man’ means ordinary human women.
According to Genesis, Slavery in the temple was not only unnecessary, but also an abomination before God.
Slavery in the temple seems to have reached its peak after a series of sins, from Adam’s eating of the forbidden fruit, to Cain’s murder of his brother, to the violent revenge of Lamech
The result of this string of human sins stirred the great anger of God.
Genesis 6:6
6 The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain.
“The LORD was grieved…”
The anger God felt would be similar to the human anger expressed in Genesis 34:7 and Samuel 19:2.
In Genesis 34:7, it’s expressed through the rage of a sister’s brothers after she is raped.
In Samuel 19:2, It’s expressed through the grief and anger a father feels when his son loses his life in war.
The Results of sin
The Bible reflects the results of the consequences of sin, those who left God, the master of life.
As a consequence of sin, God lowered the life span of a person from an average age of 900 years to 120 years.
And then he sent the flood, extinguishing many sinful lives in an instant
But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD
Genesis 6:5-8

At that time, Everyone sinned out of their own greed.
Nevertheless, God made a possibility of salvation through Noah and his family.
The mercy of God in this instance is very similar to that shown in Genesis 3 and 4.
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.”
In Genesis 3, The serpent was cursed to crawl forever on its belly, and was condemned to constantly fight the descendants of the woman.
The woman’s descendants were prophesied to crush the serpent ‘s head, which would happen through Jesus,
And Eventually the serpent will suffer even more damage in that long war.
This passage in Genesis is not only a judgment given to a serpent, but at the same time it is a promise, a prophecy, given to humanity.
Both Jews and Christians have traditionally viewed this prophecy as the first hint of a savior for humanity.
Genesis 4:15
But the LORD said to him, “Not so; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.
In Genesis 4, Like the clothes Adam and Eve received from God, Cain’s mark from God reminded him of his sins.
It also assured Cain that God would protect him from his enemies.
So, Even if a person is a sinner like Cain, if he requests God’s mercy,
God responds to that request.
God is the one who prepares salvation for his children, and through Noah in Genesis chapter 6, he presented his salvation solution.
Genesis 6:9
9 This is the account of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.
I don’t know why it is said that God thought of Noah as a righteous and blameless man. But I do know one thing.
he walked with God.
Noah’s simple life of obedience and walking with God would probably have seemed boring and stupid to most people.
But because Noah obeyed God’s will rather than pursuing the values of the world, i think God loved this attitude in Noah.
The life of a christian
The times we live in are similar to the times of Noah.
Sometimes living as a Christian can be ridiculed by people, or misunderstood, rejected, or ignored.
But we, like Noah, must remember who is the ultimate master of our lives.
Even if you are a Christian, sometimes God’s judgment can feel scary.
But for those who accompany God, this is not a concern.
In the end, they will receive not judgment and death, but salvation and eternal life.
Noah accompanied God.
So he was safe from the judgment everyone else was afraid of.
He also lived well the rest of his life, enjoying the blessings that God gave him.
NBA Basketball coach, Pat Riley said,
“If you don’t get better, you’ll get worse.”
This is the same in the relationship between God and us.
“If you don’t get better, you’ll get worse.”
So Let’s accompany God!
Let’s read the Bible and pray for that.
God will give us his great mercy.
He will give us his wisdom to overcome the unknown future.
And he will give us great joy and the power of Christ in our lives
I hope we will accompany God this week as well.

●내 남은 수명을 볼 수 있다면? [영화 “인타임”]
할렐루야! 모두 추석 연휴를 즐겁게 보냈기를 소망합니다.
여러분은 지난 2011년에 개봉한 저스틴 팀버레이크 주연의 영화 “In Time”을 알고 있습니까?
영화의 줄거리는 이렇습니다.
과학의 발전으로 인해, 미래에 모든 사람들은 스물 다섯살이 되면 더 이상 늙지 않게 됩니다.
사람들은 가장 젊고 멋진 스물다섯살의 모습으로 살아가게 됩니다.
그러나 누구나 스물다섯살이 되면, “Count body watch”를 자신의 팔에 새기게 되는데, 사람들은 이 시계를 통해 1년의 추가 생명을 받게 됩니다.
“Count body watch”의 시간은 미래의 사회에서 돈과 같습니다. 사람들은 이 시간으로 음식을 사고, 버스를 타고, 집세를 냅니다. 그들은 삶에 필요한 모든 것을 시간으로 계산합니다.
하지만 주어진 시간을 다 써버리고 “Count body watch” 시간이 “0”이 되면, 시계의 주인은 그 즉시 심장마비로 사망합니다.
사람들은 시간을 얻게 위해, 일을 하거나, 누군가에게 시간을 빌리거나, 시간을 빼앗거나 하면서 이 사회는 남은 시간 때문에 언제나 시끄러웠습니다.
만약 영화에 나오는 사람들처럼, 우리가 우리에게 남은 시간을 확인할 수 있다면 어떨까요?
우리는 1초마다 쉬지 않고 줄어드는 시간 때문에, 마음이 불안해서 하루하루를 마음 편하게 보내지 못할 것입니다.
그러나 한번 생각해 보십시요.
비록 눈에 보이지는 않지만, 우리 모두 각각의 “Count body watch”를 가지고 살아갑니다.
그리고 그 시계 속에서 우리의 시간이 지금도 줄어들고 있습니다.
우리가 언젠가는 죽는다는 사실입니다.
우리는 우리의 남은 시간을 알 수 없지만, 하나님은 알고 계십니다.
그 분이 우리 생명의 주인이기 때문입니다.
하나님은 우리를 사랑하시고 배려하셔서, 우리가 우리 인생의 남은 시간을 아는 것을 허락하지 않으셨습니다. 그 덕분에 우리는 걱정 없이 매일매일의 하루를 충실히 살아 갈 수 있습니다.
오늘은 <생명의 주인이신 하나님>이라는 제목으로 창세기 6장을 나누려고 합니다.
이 시대에는 아담의 열 번째 자손 노아가 살았습니다.
이 때는 땅 위에 인구가 많이 증가한 시기였습니다.
그 이유는 하나님께서 아담에게 “생육하고 번성하라”고 하신 말씀을 지키셨기 때문입니다.
하나님께서 자신이 창조한 사람들을 축복해 주시고, 사람들은 창조자이신 하나님을 사랑하고 순종하는 것이, 에덴 동산에서 볼 수 있었던 가장 이상적인 모습이었습니다.
하나님은 약속대로 사람들을 축복해주셨는데, 사람들은 하나님을 사랑하고 순종했을까요?
●죄의 성장 [창기 문화]
창세기 6:1~4
1 사람이 땅 위에 번성하기 시작할 때에 그들에게서 딸들이 나니
2 하나님의 아들들이 사람의 딸들의 아름다움을 보고 자기들이 좋아하는 모든 여자를 아내로 삼는지라
3 여호와께서 이르시되 나의 영이 영원히 사람과 함께 하지 아니하리니 이는 그들이 육신이 됨이라 그러나 그들의 날은 백이십 년이 되리라 하시니라
4 당시에 땅에는 네피림이 있었고 그 후에도 하나님의 아들들이 사람의 딸들에게로 들어와 자식을 낳았으니 그들은 용사라 고대에 명성이 있는 사람들이었더라 아멘
IVP 성경 주석에 따르면…
고대 세계에서는 신과 인간이 성적 관계를 맺는 이야기들이 종종 전해져 내려온다.
메소포타미아와 가나안에서는 신과 인간의 결혼을 기념하기 위해 신전에서 성스러운 결혼식을 거행했다. 이 예식들은 땅의 비옥함과 일상적인 결혼에서의 번성을 확고하게 하기 위한 것이었다.
이 의식들에는 아버지들이 결혼하지 않은 딸들을 신전 봉사를 위해 바치는 것도 포함되어 있었다.
실제로 이 소녀들은 제사장들과 부유한 숭배자들을 즐겁게 하기 위해 신전 창기로 봉사했다.
1절, 2절, 4절은 이러한 관습을 묘사한다. ‘하나님의 아들들’이란 영적인 존재들을 가리킨다. 여기에서나 욥기 1장6절, 2장1절에서 이 존재들을 선하지 않음에도 불구하고 천사들이라 번역되어 있다. ‘사람의 딸들’은 보통 인간 여자들을 가리킨다.
창세기에 의하면 이 신전 창기의 관습은 필요하지 않을 뿐만 아니라, 하나님 앞에 가증한 것이었다. 여기서 등장한 신전 창기 관습은 아담이 금단의 열매를 먹은 것으로부터 시작해서 가인이 그 동생을 죽인 것, 그리고 라멕의 난폭한 복수에 이르기까지 일련의 죄들 가운데서 가장 정점에 이른 것으로 보인다.
인간의 이러한 죄성은 하나님의 강렬하고 신랄한 의분을 일으킨다.
이 의분(‘마음에 근심하시고’)은 여동생이 강간 당하였을 때 오빠들이 느끼는 감정(창34:7), 혹은 아들이 전쟁에서 목숨을 잃었을 때 아버지의 감정과 비슷한 것이다(삼하 19:2).
●죄의 결과 (생명이 사라짐)
성경에서는 생명이신 하나님을 떠나 죄 가운데 사는 사람들의 결과를 보여줍니다. 그 결과로 하나님께서는 이 땅에 사는 사람의 수명을 평균 900세에서 120세로 낮추어 버리십니다. 또 홍수를 통해 많은 생명들이 한 순간에 사라지게 되었습니다.
●여호와께 은혜를 입은 노아
창세기 6:5-8

모든 사람들이 하나님과 떨어져 자신의 이익을 위해 죄를 짓고 있었습니다.
그럼에도 불구하고 하나님께서는 노아를 통해 구원의 가능성을 열어놓고 계십니다.
이러한 하나님의 자비는 창세기 3장과 4장에 나타난 것과 매우 유사합니다.
창 3:15
내가 너로 여자와 원수가 되게 하고 네 후손도 여자의 후손과 원수가 되게 하리니 여자의 후손은 네 머리를 상하게 할 것이요 너는 그의 발꿈치를 상하게 할 것이니라 하시고
뱀은 저주를 받아 ‘배로 다녀야’ 했고, 인간 곧 여자의 후손과 끊임없이 싸워야 했다.
여자의 후손이 뱀의 머리를 상하게 할 것이라고 했으므로 결국 후자가 그 오랜 전쟁에서 더 치명적인 피해를 입게 될 것이다. 따라서 이것은 뱀에게 주는 심판이지만 동시에 사람에게 주는 약속이기도 하다. 그래서 이것은 전통적으로 유대인과 그리스도인 모두에게 인류를 위한 구원자에 대한 최초의 암시로 여겨져 왔다.
창 4:15
여호와께서 그에게 이르시되 그렇지 아니하다 가인을 죽이는 자는 벌을 칠 배나 받으리라 하시고 가인에게 표를 주사 그를 만나는 모든 사람에게서 죽임을 면하게 하시니라
아담과 하와가 하나님으로부터 받은 옷처럼 가인의 표는 그의 죄를 상기시켜준다.
또한 그것은 하나님이 원수들로부터 그를 보호하실 것을 확신시켜 준다.
이를 통해 우리는 아무리 가인과 같이 완고한 죄인이라 하더라도 하나님께 자비를 구하면 응답해 주신다는 사실을 알 수 있다.
하나님은 그의 자녀들을 위해 구원을 예비하시는 분입니다. 그래서 하나님께서는 이번에도 노아를 선택함으로 그의 구원의 자비를 베푸셨습니다.
창세기 6:9
9 이것이 노아의 족보니라 노아는 의인이요 당대에 완전한 자라 그는 하나님과 동행하였으며
하나님께서 노아를 왜 의인으로 또 완전한 자로 인정하셨는지는 확실히 알 수 없습니다.
하지만 한 가지 확실한 것은 노아가 하나님과 동행하였다는 사실입니다.
사실 세상 사람들이 보기에 노아의 삶은 따분하고 어리석어 보였을 것입니다.
하지만 노아는 세상의 가치보다 생명의 주인이신 하나님의 뜻에 순종하였습니다.
이러한 노아의 마음을 하나님이 좋게 보신 것 같습니다.
●그리스도인의 삶
우리가 살아가는 지금 이 시대도 노아의 시대와 비슷합니다.
때때로 그리스도인으로 살아가는 것은 사람들에게 조롱을 받거나, 외로울 수도 있습니다.
하지만 우리는 노아처럼 우리 생명의 주인이신 하나님을 기억하고 순종해야 합니다.
우리 그리스도인에게도 하나님의 심판이 때로는 무섭게 느껴질 때가 있습니다.
하지만 하나님과 동행하려고 하는 사람들에게 이것은 걱정거리가 아닙니다.
그들이 받을 것은 심판과 죽음이 아니라 구원과 영원한 생명이기 때문입니다.
하나님과 동행하였던 노아를 보십시요. 그가 하나님과 동행하였더니, 모두가 두려워했던 심판으로부터 안전하였습니다. 또한 심판이 지나간 후에 그는 하나님이 주신 축복을 누리면서 남은 삶을 잘 살았습니다.
농구 코치 팻 라일리는 이런 말을 했습니다.
“나아지지 않으면 나빠질 것이다”
이것은 하나님과 나와의 관계도 마찬가지 입니다.
“나아지지 않으면 나빠질 것이다”
하나님와 동행하십시요. 이를 위해 깨어서 성경을 보고 기도하십시요.
그러면 생명의 하나님께서 그의 자비를 우리에게 주실 것입니다.
그가 알 수 없는 두려운 미래를 헤쳐나갈 수 있는 지혜를 우리에게 알려주실 것입니다.
그가 우리에게 새 생명과 힘과, 그리스도의 능력을 주실 것입니다.
이번 한 주도 하나님과 동행하기를 소망합니다.
