Day 3/80 – Jacob builds an altar at Bethel

As a ministry of Jeonju Antioch Church, AICF is following along with the main church’s 80-day Bible Reading Plan to close out 2020. Every day, follow along with the reading plan, a daily reflection, and meditation (writing in a spiritual journal) here on our website. We will be translating and using the main church’s plan from Korean to English here.

About the Reading

As most audio Bibles are an average of 75-hours in length, expect each daily reading to take between 45-60 minutes. For busy people who may not have time to sit down and read for that long, we will also provide links to audio versions, either on YouTube or elsewhere, that you can listen to throughout the day.

Day 3
Wednesday, October 14

Genesis 30-41

Jacob builds an altar at Bethel

1. Pray

Do not let us wander between faith and unbelief, but with strong and courageous faith, let us live by following the way, truth, and example of our faith.

2. Key verses

  • Genesis 35:1 Then God said to Jacob, “Go up to Bethel and settle there, and build an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you were fleeing from your brother Esau.”

3. Scripture Reading

Genesis 30-41

4. Reflection

The first step to returning to God is to change the direction of one’s life toward Him. The Bible calls this ‘conversion‘, or ‘repentance‘. In Hebrew, it is called ‘shuv‘ and it means ‘change of direction‘. In other words, ‘repentance‘ is changing the direction of your mind and heart. It means a holistic change that changes not only your direction but also your way of thinking. The direction of such change is a return to God, and it must include actions as well as consciousness.

5. Writing a spiritual journal

After reading today’s text, write down the will of God that you came to realize, the passage that moved you, or what you decided to do and how you want to put it into practice.

6. Check off today’s reading on the reading table
