Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

Isaiah 9:6 (Pastor Heo)

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful, Cousnselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6 is the prophecy of Jesus’ coming 700 years before he came.

First, Jesus has come as:

#1 Wonderful Counselor

This means “adviser, guide, leader, mentor, advocate, helper, teacher, Savior.”

1 Tim 1:15 “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: ‘Christ Jesus came as a Savior. Jesus came into the world to save all sinners.’”

His name “Jesus” means “Savior” – everyone needs a Savior because all men have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23).

Just as a patient needs a doctor, so a sinner needs a Savior. From sin, from death, from hell, from everything evil bad and wicked. Jesus came as Savior. Since the creation of the world, no one has come as a Savior of the world except Jesus Christ. That’s why Jesus coming = “good news of great joy for ALL people, for ALL nations!”

John 3:16 “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son so that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. 17 God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”

#2 Jesus came as Mighty God

God is Spirit, without body, without form, human passions, free from all limitations.

  • Jesus is visible God.
  • Jesus is God in the flesh, the incarnate God.
  • Jesus has come as the image of the invisible God. The mystery of God, the radiance of God’s glory, the exact representation of God’s existence, the tangible form of God. He is the very nature God.

John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word. The Word was with God and the Word was God. This Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us and in us.”

So, Jesus possesses all qualities, and attributes of God. He is pre-existent from before the Creation, into eternity. He is self-existing as the Life Giver. He is immutable, unchangeable. He never changes.

The Bible says, “He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

As Almighty God, he is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient.

#3 Jesus is Everlasting Father

Jesus is our father. Jesus came into the world to reveal God as father.

In the Old Testament, God is revealed as Creator, King, and Governor. The OT reveals the unity, holiness, power, might, and benevolence of God.

Christ Jesus completed this revelation by adding the idea of God as Father. “No one has seen God at any time. But the only begotten Son (in the father) has explained him.”

Before the coming of Jesus, no one was allowed to call God “Father” – but now, we call God “Father” thanks to Jesus coming into the world.

Jesus allows us to pray called out “Abba! Father!”

Jesus Christ himself says, “To see me is to see God as Father.” That the father himself loves us, that he knows the things we have need of before we ask him, that he will withhold no good thing from his children. The relationship of God as Father to his children is the most precious New Testament concept.

#4 Jesus came as “Prince of Peace”

We know 2000 years ago, when Jesus was born in Bethlehem “glory to God in the highest and peace on earth to men on whom his favor rests.” Thus, only Jesus can say, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. I do not give as this world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled. Take heart, I have overcome the world!”

  • Only Jesus can say, “Do not be afraid, do not fear, do not worry.”
  • Eph 2:14 “HE is our peace.”

Who has made two ONE and destroyed all barriers – and the wall of hostility between human beings? Jesus came and preached to you who are far away “peace” and “peace” to those of you who are near.

Through Jesus, we both, Jews and Gentiles, men and women, high and low class have access to the One Father God through One Spirit.

Therefore since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans?)

Through Christ we have gained access to God by faith in which we now stand – to his grace.

Jesus has come as

  1. Wonderful Counselor,
  2. Mighty God,
  3. Everlasting Father, and
  4. KING of Peace.

So, only in Jesus we are saved. Only in Jesus we can see and meet God. Only in Jesus we can call God as our personal “Father, Abba, Daddy.”

Only in Jesus we can experience true, real, heavenly peace.

Shout aloud (stretch your hands):

“Jesus Christ is Wonderful Counselor and Savior to Me. Jesus Christ is Almighty God to Me. Jesus Christ is Everlasting Father to Me. Jesus Christ is absolute Peace and Rest to Me.”

Let’s pray.
