Day 2/80 – God met Jacob at Bethel
As a ministry of Jeonju Antioch Church, AICF is following along with the main church’s 80-day Bible Reading Plan to close out 2020. Every day, follow along with the reading plan, a daily reflection, and meditation (writing in a spiritual journal) here on our website. We will be translating and using the main church’s plan from Korean to English here.
About the Reading
As most audio Bibles are an average of 75-hours in length, expect each daily reading to take between 45-60 minutes. For busy people who may not have time to sit down and read for that long, we will also provide links to audio versions, either on YouTube or elsewhere, that you can listen to throughout the day.

God met Jacob at Bethel

2. Key Verses
- Genesis: 28:15 “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
3. Scripture Reading
Genesis 19-29
- English audio
- YouVersion Bible (NIV) online / app
- YouTube
- Korean audio
4. Reflection
Jacob was an ordinary person with conditional faith. Despite God’s promise to protect him in Genesis 28:15, he accepted God’s promise conditionally in verse 21. He declared that “God will be my God if he protects me on my journey and I return to my father’s house in peace.” Jacob, who lived a self-centered life like this, is tried and tested through his life as that of a fugitive, or one on the run. Later, as a result of wrestling with God, he received a new name from God: ‘Israel’. Getting a new name in the Bible means that a person’s spiritual identity has changed.
5. Writing a spiritual journal
After reading today’s text, write down the will of God that you came to realize, the passage that moved you, or what you decided to do and how you want to put it into practice.
